In recent months many prominent and high-level political figures were visiting Valmiera and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) in Latvia. Each meeting was used to promote and to tell about the ONE BSR project.
Representative of ViA Zane Kalnina introduced the ONE BSR project to the president of Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck on 8 July. She told about the project’s aims to attract new investments, talents and tourists, and to develop one Baltic Sea Region identity. Also the President of Latvia, Latvian Education and Science Minister, Latvian Minister of Economics and Ambassador of Germany to Latvia were attending the meeting.
On September 27 more than 20 Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited and residing in Latvia were visiting Valmiera and ViA. Among others there were diplomats from Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Korea, China, and Japan.
They met with the head of the university Mr. Gatis Krumins and the head of the Academic Department Iveta Putnina who introduced the attendants with university’s progress made so far and future plans. Besides that guests were introduced with the international activities carried out by the university, including participation in One Baltic Sea Region project.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences hopes that these high-level meetings raises the recognition of ONE BSR project and the awareness about the importance of creating one Baltic Sea Region identity.
